Context Setting

(Responding to Unexpected Change)

Tell me about a time you had to adapt to an unexpected change.
During a student campaign, our main speaker canceled just two days before the event, so we had to change a major part of our content plan.
How did you respond?
[Situation] My team was organizing an online career event, and we had already created most of our promotional content around a guest speaker.
[Task] When the speaker canceled two days before the event, we needed to revise the program and update our promotional materials quickly.
[Action] I first identified which materials were affected, then suggested replacing the speaker session with a panel discussion using three participants who were already attending the event. I also divided the content updates among the team so we could work in parallel.
[Result] We updated the program and promotional materials before the event, and the panel discussion received positive feedback from participants.
How did you stay focused when the plan changed so suddenly?

I tried not to focus on what we had lost. Instead, I focused on what resources we still had and what we could realistically change within the time available.

What did you learn from that experience?

I learned that being adaptable doesn't mean changing everything immediately. It means understanding what has changed, protecting what still works, and adjusting only what needs to change.

How do you adjust when priorities suddenly change?
 Advanced
How do you remain effective when a major change disrupts your original plan?
 Easy
I try to stay calm, understand what has changed, and decide what needs to be adjusted first.
Yes. I prefer having a clear plan, but I'm comfortable adjusting it when circumstances change.
 Medium
During an event project, one of our key participants canceled at the last minute. We redesigned that part of the program using the resources we already had.
I reassess what still needs to be done, identify what is no longer relevant, and reorganize my tasks around the new priority.
 Advanced
I separate the parts of the plan that are affected from those that can still move forward. Then I focus my time and resources on adapting the areas that matter most.
"adapt to..."
We had to adapt quickly to the unexpected change."
  • enlightenedInterview Strategy
  • Don't: Everything changed, so we had to start over.
  • Better: We identified what had changed and adapted the parts of our plan that were affected.
"come up with an alternative"
  • 👉come up with an alternative = 대안을 생각해 내다.
We quickly came up with an alternative for the canceled session."
  • enlightenedInterview Strategy
  • Don't: Our original plan didn't work, so we changed it.
  • Better: When our original plan was no longer possible, we quickly came up with a practical alternative.
"work with what you have"
  • 👉work with what you have = 현재 가지고 있는 자원이나 조건을 활용하다.
I focused on how we could work with what we had."
  • enlightenedInterview Strategy
  • Don't: We didn't have enough time to find another speaker.
  • Better: We worked with what we had and redesigned the session around the participants who were already available.
